Chapter  Three

He was late, very late but it couldn't been helped. When he had gone to leave the building the leader of the gang he had recently joint had pulled him into a private room for a chat. The chat had been nothing he hadn't heard before, the whole 'You need to prove yourself' speech that others had given him. He had been getting in and out of little groups of criminals and gangs long before he had met the marshals. In fact that was how he had survived up until that point. Then after they entered his life he managed to turn things around. He had a job delivering groceries so he didn't need to commit a crime to get what he wanted. So now he would just hang around them, gather what information he could and pass it on to the marshals.

That was where he was meant to be right now. He had rung Chris Michaels up and told him he needed to do a meet in their usual spot as he had some information. Chris had sounded a little upset with him but had agreed with a meet the only thing was it would be Miss King he would be meeting up with. He knew by the tone in Chris voice that when he got there he was probably going to get a lecture. He had already been told by both of the marshals to stay away from the case they were working on when he had volunteered to help, after over hearing a convocation between the two of them, but he had refused to listen.

Stepping out of the little corner shop he looked up the road and cursed silently under his breath. The dark blue muscle car that had been following him ever since he had left the gangs building was still there. He knew dam nicely this was them keeping an eye on him till he proved he could do what was asked of him.

They told him the first thing he had to do was mug someone. Not a difficult thing for someone his age or size but internally he didn't want to, but if he wanted to keep in the gang to help the marshals. Since leaving the building he had past plenty of ripe and easy targets but he didn't want to hit some old dude just to steal a few lousy bucks. He could have done one better and knocked over the shop he was just in but the cashier didn't look much older then him and was a girl. It was then it hit him, a way to tell them he couldn't make the meet and also to let whoever it was following him that he could follow orders.

Picking up speed he began to run down the streets darting in and out of alleyways. He knew roughly where each of the marshals had been the last time he met up to give them information. Last time though it was Chris he had gone to meet which meant hopefully he would be currently stood where Addison had been that time. Turning another corner he saw him down the far end of the alley and ran over.

Seeing the boy running his way Chris held up his hand in greeting "Hey Dani...."  Before he could finish his words Daniels fist hit him full force in the stomach and he went down.

Bending over him Daniel got as close as he could to his face and began to whisper "Sorry I don't want to do this but any second my tail will be pulling up at the..." Seeing the car pull up he stared over at it his eyes connecting with those of the male in the passenger seat.

Glancing over at the entrance of the alleyway Chris saw the car slow to a halt "Make it look good" He said through gritted teeth as the pain in his stomach made him think about nothing other than letting his last meal see the light of day again and soon.

Reaching into Chris pocket Daniel puled out his wallet, emptied it of money and whispered "I'll be in touch when I can" Then standing up he threw the wallet on the ground and kicked Chris in the ribs to keep up appearances before running towards the car and diving into the back seat.

Watching as the car sped away Chris let out a grunt as his arms wrapped around his torso. Wincing as he turned over to sit up he tried to take as deeper breath as he could "Did you guys here that?" he asked as he tried to pull himself up and gave in for a moment

"Loud and clear" Addison replied. "I also heard the wind get knocked out of you. Stay put I'm on my way to get you. Everyone else make your way from your current positions back to the office, we'll regroup there in case their still watching" Making her way to the door that led tot he stairs she smiled "Ryan you might want to go grab the car the way Chris is puffing on down the earwig I doubt he will be able to walk back".

It didn't take long before not only had she made it down all the stairs but was running over the road and into the alleyway where Chris was now stood up, his back resting against the wall. Giving him a warm little smile she stepped over towards him "No sign of anyone so there must have only been the one car." Looking him over her smiled faded as she grew concerned "Are you okay?"

Forcing a faint smile upon his lips Chris nodded his head once "I will be. Got to hand it to him though that kid has a hell of a punch"

"Yeah shame the guys in the car had to see it considering the people he's involved with" Hearing a car horn at the end of the alleyway she turned and gave Ryan a little wave before moving to tuck herself in to the side of Chris. His arm around her shoulder "Come on let's get you in the car so Ryan can take you back to the office"

"You coming with us?" He asked as slowly the made their way over to where Ryan was parked up.

Ryan jumped out the car as the two got closer. Opening the back door he grinned "You can lie down in there. I promise not to drive to fast and make you fall on the floor"

Addison removed Chris arm from around her shoulder as she ducked out the way. "I'll meet you guys in the office in about half an hour. I'm going to go for a little wander to make sure Daniel's okay.

Nodding Ryan helped Chris into the back seat, closed the door and took off. Addison was glad in a way that Chris was in state to want to come with her. A car would be to obvious a thing to show up to check on the boy so she was going to simply run there and there was no way Chris would be able to keep up with her speed.
