Chapter One
Striding down the hallway towards the interrogation room Addison turned to look at her long time partner in the field. "So what exactly makes you think she'll talk to me?"
"Well your good at making people open up to you" He said the smirk that had been playing on his lips growing ever larger.
"That's not much of an answer" She replied her eyes studying his face. She could tell something was off she just couldn't tell what.
Turning his head to face her he simply shrugged his shoulders "Okay how about if she won't open up and talk you can use your hoodoo voodoo mind thing to open her up"
Suddenly coming to a halt Addison folded her arms across her chest and glared at Chris "You know my abilities aren't some cheap parlour trick, sometimes there are consequences that can't be controlled. Why do think I never use that ability on those we are after to make them walk straight into the courtrooms off the streets and confess all"
He had come to a halt a little after she had and so was further down the hallway when she had started to speak. It was obvious he had hit a nerve when he had said about her using her ability to manipulate peoples wills and minds and was beginning to wish he had chosen another excuse to get her here. Doubling back to where she was stood he placed his hand on her arm and looked her in the eyes "I was joking Addi. I know you would only ever use that ability as a last resort" Moving to stand a little behind her he slid his hand down from her arm to the small of her back and gave her a gentle push "Now come on let's get you to this room already before we have to go out in the field"
Shaking her head she smiled as Chris placed his hand upon her. She had known him now for what felt like a lifetime and it was rare he ever apologised for anything so to hear him say sorry for a joke... Suddenly watching as he moved behind her she let out a small laugh as he gave her a gentle a push. Something that if she had refused to move another step, would never have worked as she was far stronger than he was. "Okay okay I'm moving".
As the two rounded the corner the door to the interrogation room came into site. "What did you say her name was again?" She asked as Chris reached out and gripped the door handle.
"Her name is...." He grinned as he opened the door.
"SURPRISE"
There in the middle of the table was a cake shaped like their badges with a candle shaped like a one, it's flame dancing with the small draft that had entered the room through the now open door. Gathered around was the rest of the squad and as Chris squeezed past Addison to join the others they all smiled over at her.
Addison stood her mouth slightly open and a totally confused and bewildered look upon her face. "What? I mean..... Well with a one it's certainly no ones birthday not unless your going for mental age"
"It's one year go today since the squad was started so we thought a little mini celebration before we started the day would be nice" Chris stated as he sat on the edge of the table.
"Come on boss lady blow out the candle I want to see if it tastes as good as it looks" One of the others stated.
Looking up at them all she smiled "You know normally I would have to kick all of your asses for this but considering it's a special day". With that she stepped into the room closing the door behind her.

US MARSHALS OFFICES TEXAS (one year ago)
ding...
As the elevator door opened Chris and Addison stepped out laughing and joking on with each other, their work day almost at an end. Addison streatched as she let out a yawn. Normally night shifts agreed with her perfectly but last night had been one hell of a crazy ride. If she hadn't known better Addison would have sworn it was a full moon, or failing that that someone had left the door to the local asylum open and the inmates were all loose.
"You know your going to have to tell me eventually" Chris said as he nudged her snapping her out of her own little world that she was starting to drift off in
"I don't have to tell yo......"
"KING, MICHEALS, MY OFFICE NOW"
As Addison's sentence was cut off by both their names being shouted the two marshals looked up even though they already knew who it was. There stood in this doorway with a grim look on his face was their superior officer.
"THIS YEAR" He snapped as his head vanished back inside his office.
"What have you done now?" Addison asked as they changed direction from walking towards their desks to walking towards the office door.
"Me? Your name was shouted first" He whispered as they reached the door.
Knocking on the door Addison and Chris stepped through the door way.
There stood over by the window was their superior Peter Sutherland. He had been in law enforcement since he was eighteen, now at fifty-five he had about seen and done it all and was well respected by all. "Shut the door and sit down" He said without even moving his eyes from the window.
Closing the door behind them, both took a seat.
"Everything ok boss?" Addison asked. In all her years working under this man she had never seen him this way.
His eyes leaving the scene of the people rushing around in the street below he turned his gaze up on Addison and Chris. Running his hand through his salt and peppered hair he let out a sigh and moved over to his desk. Resting against the edge of it he focused his gaze on Addison, his eyes filled with a mix of sorrow and joy.
"Ever since you came here to work under me I've been lenient with you and if a case has come in and you have demanded it, instead of pulling rank I have allowed you to take it and we both know why that is"
Letting out a sigh he moved from where he was to around the back of the desk. His eyes moving between the two marshals he gave them both a small smile as he sat down. Opening his top draw he reached inside and pulled out a file and threw it onto the table.
"There's new evidence been brought to my attention that tells me that old case might just fall into your field of expertise Miss King"
Talking a deep breath he reached back into the draw and pulled out a set of keys and placed them on the table. Watching as Chris picked up the file and opened it Sutherland slid the keys across the desk towards Addison.
"Because of the circumstances surrounding that case and all the others you have taken I've decided that it might be in the public's best interest if a special squad was set up"
Standing up he held his hand out towards Addison
"Congratulations Miss King you just got your own squad to fill with whoever you want to deal with those special cases. There are two conditions that will make it a permanent position"
Standing up and taking his hand with a firm grasp Addison nodded her head. She had fully understood everything he had said and also understood why he hadn't come straight out and said what he meant "Thank you sir" She said smiling.
"What are the two conditions" Chris chimed in from his seat as he wondered what this meant for him if his partner was getting such a promotion.
Pulling his hand back as Addison released her grasp both of them sat down. Looking over at Chris, their boss crossed his legs and picked up his cup. "The first condition is that file there is the first case taken on by the squad and it never gets put on the shelf as a cold case, it stays active till it's solved"
Looking over at the file as Chris flicked through it Addison could see what it was and agreed it needed solving "Of cause it will always be a priority till solved. What's the second condition?"
"Well that one you might not want to do but I'm ordering you to" Sutherland grinned as he put his cup down and leant forward "You take that one with you as part of your squad" His head nodding towards Chris as he let out a low chuckle.
"Now hey" Chris said suddenly realising what the captain had meant by he was ordering him to be taken.
Letting out a laugh Addison looked at Chris then back at her boss. "Well I guess someone has to put up with him and if I leave him here it will be some other poor person so it's a deal I'll take him with me".
